New Year’s Resolutions for Back Pain Relief

The New Year brings about a fresh start and new beginning, but for those that suffer from back pain, it is just more time spent suffering. If you are in need of back pain relief, here are our top New Year’s Resolutions

Improve Your Posture

Standing, sitting, and even laying down with proper posture can help protect your spine and keep it healthy. Poor posture puts added stress on your back and can cause it to become misaligned. To prevent back pain from poor posture, avoid hunching your shoulders, slouching, or bending sideways while standing up.

Exercise More

Exercise isn’t just for losing weight! Strengthening your core muscles can help reduce chronic pain in your back and reduce the risk of back injuries. Make a resolution to exercise at least two times per week and focus on exercises that strengthen your back and abdominal muscles. If you spend the majority of your day sitting at a desk, be sure to get up and stretch regularly. To learn what exercises will be best for you, just ask during your next adjustment.

Eat a Healthy Diet

A healthy diet that is high in calcium and vitamin D and full of antioxidants can help build a strong spine. Deficiencies in calcium and vitamin D can lead to problems including osteoporosis, which is a common cause of back pain in older women. Additionally, a diet full of nutrient-dense foods can help your body (and spine) heal faster.
